How do we lay block paving?
Step 1: Site Clearance
Our team begins by assessing the site to understand the soil type, drainage requirements, and potential challenges. We then clear the area, removing any existing driveway material, debris, or vegetation.
A crucial step in ensuring the longevity of your driveway, we lay a sub-base, typically composed of crushed stone. This layer is compacted to create a stable, level foundation that aids in drainage and prevents settling or shifting of the blocks.
Step 2: Laying the blocks
A layer of sand is screeded (smoothed and levelled) over the sub-base to create a bed for the blocks. This layer helps in adjusting the height and ensures a flat surface for the blocks to be laid on.
We carefully lay the blocks in the chosen pattern. Precision is key here, as it affects not just the aesthetics but also the structural integrity of the driveway. We cut blocks as necessary to fit the edges and around obstacles.
Step 3: Finishing Touches
Once all the blocks are laid, we fill the joints between them with kiln-dried sand. This sand is compacted into the joints, providing additional stability to the blocks.
The entire driveway is then compacted using a plate compactor to bed the blocks into the sand. After compaction, we sweep the driveway to remove any excess sand and ensure a clean finish.
